Icons: Punch!

Whoops, missed a night.  So, now for [info]nute , who asked for Punch icons (I'm not sure why one of them popped up but he was adorable so I made it into an icon - you'll see which one under the cut):

Cross-posted to LJ. Orange cupcakes' texture is great, mouthfeel is great, taste is awesome, but dammit they're sticking to the goddamn bottom of the goddamn papers. Goddammit. Stupid Maillard reactions. I don't think I properly accounted for the increase to the sugar when I subbed the orange juice for the water.

Halloween plans way early?

Inspired by this and this

I think Twiller and I should totally go for Halloween as a steampunk version of Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace.

Packing continued....

So far, I've emptied off 8 book shelves, totaling 5 boxes.  I've got 3 1/2 shelves left, plus the TBR ... which, I think I'm just going to keep around and shove into bags when the time to move shows up.

Just for me, the furniture that's being moved:  3 bookcases (one with 5 shelves, one with 3, one skinnier with 6), one desk, one bed, three small night tables/dressers, one coffee table, one dining room table.  Plus sides: with the exception of the skinny bookshelf, all shelves come out.  The glass in the coffee table also comes up (that's going to be moved in the car), the desk is wee, the bed CAN be taken apart but might be easier on my brain to just move as is.

I'm done for today, I think.

Hey!

I actually have a closet floor!  I no longer have a real floor because everything that was on the closet floor is now ... out ... fuck.  (Shh, part of the plan, really.)  I'm still feeling awful but I'm using my day off to tackle this room.  The basement is pretty much done though I do want to go over the kitchen stuff again.

My plan for the day to day clothes is just to bring them over on their hangers in my car instead of boxing them up - good idea, bad idea?

Jesus, I'm going to have a lot of boxes to move. *slightly panicked*

Until a trip to Rhode Island to see a friend I haven't seen in almost 10 years.

things i have discovered this past week:

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 11:08 AM
1. ken recommended gimp as image editing software, since the license apparently ran out on the old program we had on our laptops. when you start up a new file and need to pick what size image you are trying to construct, "toilet paper" is one of the preset size templates. o_O

2. my sister has a copy of the dead or alive album with "you spin me round" on it. on cassette. lol.

3. it is ridiculously hot and humid with no ac. i've actually taken to running in the evenings around 8pm just to cool down, because it's sometimes warmer just sitting inside the house o_O

4. i guess i understand that you might wanna re-check yourself like once, but why the hell do most pregnancy tests come in 3-packs?

5. this upcoming week is apparently "richmond rocky horror week." hrm.

6. i don't *entirely* suck at growing things. the pepper/tomato plants are still [for the moment] alive!

w00t. today i continue to attempt to study for functional. yesterday i cooked/baked crap all day to avoid looking at it. maybe the fact that i won't really be able to study tomorrow (shenandoah nat'l park w/ kai & co?) will coerce me into doing stuff today. and maybe me being productive and having something to look forward to will also put me in a less crabby mood...*maybe*.

:D

Happy birthday, [info]incandescently !  I hope it's a good one and I wish I was up there. *hugs*  ♥

Moving on; still alive

Well, It's been a while since I've posted, not much new has happened in the past 7 weeks, I'm just working every day that I can and getting ready to move over to another warehouse, and getting ready to at some point move to a new apartment.  It's kinda like time continues to march along.

Right now I guess life is perfectly bitter-sweet.

I HAZ A SQUISHABLE HEDGIE!

I am trying to decide if he should have a name, or if I am just going to call him "Mr. Hedgie". (Karen's squishable penguin is Mr. Pangin-Pangin, her panda pillow is Mr. Panda-Panda, and her penguin pillow is Mr. Pengin-Pengin)

If he's going to have a name, it should start with an H. Because I love alliteration a little too much sometimes. :)

Taking suggestions!

Birthday

  • Jul. 7th, 2009 at 10:15 PM

I HAZ A BIRTHDAY PIGLET.

All in all, it's been a pretty awesome birthday.

Since my parents were in town for the 4th of July weekend, and I had Friday off, we did our birthday celebrating a bit early. Went and played two rounds of minigolf, did some gokarts, and played a bit in the arcade. Had a giant burrito for lunch, and got Claim Jumper dinner on Sunday. They also gave me a couple of games for the Wii, which was yay.

Had to go to work today, since I'm saving up leave for all the weddings we're going to in the fall, and the meeting that I was hoping would only take an hour stretched into like three. But after I got out of work, Karen and I went to Costco for lunch and picking up a few things. Then we drove down to La Jolla and saw this awesome sea cave that you had to go down like 145 steps in this really narrow tunnel to get to. And then we walked around the coves and saw the beaches and tidepools and stuff. Lots of really pretty stuff.

Then we went to a Barnes and Noble, because my boss gave me a $50 gift card in a really awesome birthday card earlier today. (as type A as he can be, I like my boss a lot) So I picked up the D&D 4E Eberron book, as well as Arcane Power.

Then we went to a teppenyaki place for dinner. I figured out either yesterday or today why I enjoy teppenyaki and fondue so much. It's because they're engaging in a way that other meals aren't. With teppenyaki there's a very visual and whimsical feeling to things. Our chef made a Pac-Man out of the fried rice, with a lemon wheel for an eye, and several pellets of sesame seeds. And then she pushed Pac-Man so that he ate up the pellets, and she made the "OM OM OM OM" noises. It was awesome. We had a sushi appetizer, and I had filet mignon and chicken. Leftovers tomorrow for lunch, whee!

I like to put a lot of wasabi in my soy sauce for sushi. Karen tried a bit of it and nearly choked. To which I said "You like wasabi, you like soy sauce. Maybe you don't like spicy death so much? Maybe I used too much wasabi. Isn't it enough to know I ruined some soy sauce eating sushi with you?" /jocodork

And then we went to Coldstone and I got a birthday cake milkshake (cake batter and chocolate ice cream). And then we came home and I caught up on the Internets with everything that happened today (good lord, I had a lot of email, and LJ posts to read, and @ messages on Twitter).

Thank you to everyone who sent birthday wishes in any medium. Special thanks to [info]dexfarkin, who called while we were at the tide pools to congratulate me on entering the "dirty thirties". Also thank you to [info]seraangel, who called shortly thereafter. I initially mistook her for [info]deathpixie, since I figured she had thwapped Dex for not letting her say hello when he called. *sheepish*

Also, OMG MY SISTER CALLED ME FROM HER SHIP. Best birthday present I could have asked for. She's kind of bummed that some of the Marines and sailors being sick means they have missed port call in Hong Kong and Guam, but I'm glad that she's somewhere in the Pacific steaming her way home, and can't wait to see her again.

Might go on an adventure this weekend, since work meant I didn't get a huge amount of time to do stuff this afternoon. And Karen still has to get me my birthday present, apparently. So it's like I get a whole week of awesome for my birthday. Who could ask for more?

Much love to all of you, and thanks for making it a great day.

And now, bed.

*grumbles* The hormones are kicking up in high gear; when you plop it on top of the mountain of stress that's landed on my shoulders, I can feel my irritation levels rise and my patience drop.  I almost lost it on a 21 minute phone call - I didn't say a damned word on that call until 10 minutes in after saying my initial "Thank you for calling".  Nothing like learning someone's entire history for no.  Real.  Reason.

As much as it's irritating having the metro still be fucked up, it's probably a little good as I'm having to drive in to avoid being late and I don't have to deal with other people.

Its just frustrating when my irritation level spikes and I can feel it spike and can't do a damned thing about it.

Third day of fulfilling requests - I think these are turning out brilliantly.  [info]seraangel requested "Sinister" and it provided a surprising number of really neat images to play with.

as we drove back to ithaca from my aunt and uncle's house, i increasingly became in a more sour mood. we had had a very fun weekend. and then it was over, and just like that i was jolted back into hating myself and my life. i didn't want to talk to dave and was even more annoyed that my parents decided to come back to ithaca instead of going straight back to newport.

now i'm on my back porch, reading, and listening to electronica with the sound of construction at my neighbors in the background. it's beautiful and i've already been running, in anticipation of the evening thunderstorms which have plaguing the area for weeks now (ruining afternoon/evening bike rides).

dave wants to go to california. i really don't. i am terrified of flying. i don't really have the time to take off another week and do no work. but i will, because i don't feel like fighting with him about it.

and whatever, if i die in the plane crash its not like that much will be lost.

I firmly believe that Cape Cod may be the most beautiful place on Earth. Yesterday I watched the sunset over the bay. July 4th we saw fireworks going off all up and down the cape over the bay. Yesterday we found the picked-clean skeleton of a very lost porpoise on the beach. That last one wasn't so beautiful, but it was pretty cool :)

Love,
Kate

I've pretty much gone through every box that I have in the basement and I'm tossing quite a bit.  (I still own quite a bit, but still.)  I've also packed up almost all of my DVDs and the first two shelves of books (*groans* 330 books owned, not including the TBR shelves, Jesus Christ, this is going to be a bitch.), totaling three boxes packed in the bedroom.

Just about 4 weeks until I want to be at least 95% packed; hoping the apartment can be opened a few days before the 8th.  If not, well, that's fine.  I'll probably be renting one of the 14 foot trucks from U-Haul the morning of the move (renting it before hand but just for the 8th), so there's that.

I'm also looking through the books to see any that I don't really want.  Putting them on paperbackswap to hopefully lighten the load.  If not, there's already a box on the floor for those books, so...

(Why do I have so much stuff?  Where did this stuff COME from?)
